Delighted Darren wins top job at NHS Trust – Carlisle News & Star 14th July 2009 NORTH West Ambulance Service NHS Trust has appointed a new chief executive. The appointment of Darren Hurrell follows the retirement of John Burnside at the end of May. Prior to this appointment, Mr Hurrell was the chief executive of Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust, based in Bebington on the Wirral.

Sir Liam Donaldson, the Chief Medical Officer led the numbers feast alongside Justin McCracken, chief executive of the Health Protection Agency, and Ian Dalton, the new flu czar. Sir Liam explained what data are being tracked: total number of cases, antiviral usage, hospitalisations and deaths (see pyramid, below).
